The Hotel and Restaurant Museum, through its collections, highlights the shared cultural heritage and societal significance of food and drink culture in Finland. The museum’s information service responds to inquiries and questions related to the collections. The development of the museum’s collections is guided by its collection policy.
The collections of the Hotel and Restaurant Museum comprise photographs, objects, archival materials (including menus, oral histories, and brochures), and a library collection. Materials related to restaurants and hotels are the most prominently represented.
The collections depict food and drink culture, as well as the accommodation and catering industry and professional food culture in Finland from various perspectives, including those of employees working in different professions within the industry.
Chronologically, the collections span from the 18th century to the present day and cover the entire region of Finland. Unique components of the collections include extensive menu materials in terms of time, geography, content, and quantity, a cookbook collection, and photographic and object collections related to the accommodation and catering industry.
Our collections online: The museum’s Finna portal features photographs, menus, and images of objects from our collections.
